Choose an Agent through the Maine Financial Power of Attorney, to deal with any public or private institutions to represent your best interests for all monetary related matters. The Agent must be capable of running or closing any businesses you own, and must be able to manage your investments. The most common choice for the agent is often a spouse or close relative. If you do choose your spouse, it is important to note that in Maine, the Financial Power of Attorney isn’t automatically terminated upon divorce. It’s also recommended to name an alternate or secondary Agent, in case your first choice is not available.
